This year, Bradley and I had the honor of hosting a temporarily displaced family of three — a mother, father, and their young daughter in elementary school. I personally at the time only met the mom in a small group I was a part of. After her husband suffered a massive heart attack, they lost everything: a home business, personal items, their community to their beloved home. It wasn't clear if the father would recover.
But what they never lost was faith.
Through the generosity of our church community, this beloved family received hot dinners every night. With just two blow-up beds, a day bed and open hearts, We, the Webster’s, made space in our home for them to rest, heal, and hope again. Mom prayerfully looked for a job daily. Dad went to physical rehabilitation. Together they looked for housing.
In just 12 days, prayers were answered: mom found a great job. The family secured an apartment. Dad’s heart began to heal dramatically over time. I'm writing this because, I saw the dad volunteering in the community this week. I remembered it wasn’t long ago that adversity rocked this family’s world..
A new chapter has begun.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on
your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6
God is and was faithful. Every step of the way. Yes, this incident took a mountain of faith, a community of unified prayers and a great big GOD.
My hope remains in Jesus- my firm foundation.
